A walk through the old town core of Slovenska Bistricasentenceend

The castle, Castle Park, churches, squares and Grassl tower give Slovenska Bistrica a unique seal, and it is also a town that is an excellent starting point for excursions – for example there are attractive vineyards in the surroundings.

The town, which lies by the Ljubljana-Maribor motorway, is one of the oldest towns in Slovenia – the old town core originated on the remains of the Roman settlement Civitas Negotiana in the year 1227, the town wall was built around the year 1300.

  • Slovenska Bistrica castle and the castle park with the town wall,
  • beech tree avenue in the castle park,
  • Grassl tower,
  • the Church of Mary and the Seven Sorrows,
  • the Church of St Bartholomew,
  • the Church of St Joseph, the square Trg Svobode with the town hall, the square Trg Alfonz Šarh,
  • ancient fort, Bistrica wine cellar and
  • numerous exhibition rooms.
