Along the forest learning trail Uršankovo you will get to know the characteristics of the mountain forest and briefly be acquainted with parts of the history of this region.
Description of the trail
The beginning of the forest trail starts at the Muc inn by the Pohorje Lobničica stream. The trail is set in a circle, and you can choose between different distances: the short trail, which is of a distance of 1,3 km and the longer trail, which is 3 km – follow the elm leaf sign.
There are 11 stopping points that are marked with wooden boards on which is presented the forest and its component parts: tree species and trees respectively, undergrowth, medicinal plants, the water regime, forest floor, the connection between the forest and the animal world and the geological foundation.
Lobnica – source of blacksmith's and glassworks
Along the way you will come across the Pohorje stream called Lobnica, which in the past was very important for the development of economic activities in this area: blacksmith's and glassworks. By the stream there were 23 mills and sawmills. Running alongside the stream was also a 15,7 km long water timber slide for taking wood down into the valley, which they began to build in the year 1837 on the incentive of glassmaker Benedikta Vivata. It was in operation all the way up to 1958, when a road replaced it. By the timber cute was a simple glassworks, which employed up to 200 people. Evidence (preserved names) bear witness to the fact that in the 18th and 19th century 18 glassworks were in operation on Pohorje.
