The oldest streets in Lentsentenceend

Ključavničarska ulica (Locksmith’s Street)

Ključavničarska ulica will lead you from the street Ulica kneza Koclja into the ”Jewish ghetto”, the part of Lent that was once populated by Jews, who settled here in the second half of the 13th century. The street got its name from the locksmith’s workshop, which operated for many years in house No. 3.

Dravska ulica (Drava Street)

This once narrow and steep, but important traffic street led the inhabitants of the town from the square Glavni trg down to the bridge on the Drava. Its appearance changed after interventions made in 1966 and 1967, when due to the construction of a dam on the river Drava, several houses were pulled down. Today from the Drava riverbank you can go up the street to the square Glavni trg and Old Bridge.

Usnjarska ulica (Leather Street)

Up to the time of the construction of the Southern Railways in Maribor (1864) the leather trade was one of the town’s leading trades. The street by the river Drava was the most suitable place for setting up leather workshops, as a great deal of water was need for this trade. It was renowned as the dirtiest street in town; and it stayed that way right up until the collapse of the leather trade in Maribor. Today the street leads you along Lent past the Water Tower.
