The parish church of St. Martin in Kamnica

Arriving in Kamnica, a place neighbouring Maribor, the Parish church of St. Martin’s will catch your eye. It is the focal point in Kamnica; its architectonic characteristics place it among the most important cultural monuments in the surroundings of Maribor.

It is composed of:

• an early Gothic nave,
• a late Gothic presbytery,
• bell tower from the 16th century and
• a chapel and vestry that were built at the end of the 17th century.

Until 1830 the church was surrounded by a graveyard.

In the middle of the 18th century the church was given a Baroque look: decorated with frescoes by Georg Raf from St Andraž in the Labotska valley dated 1748 and by Anton Lerchinger from Rogatec dated 1753. There are also precious fittings made by Jožef Holzinger dated 1767 and 1778 as well as by the already mentioned artist Anton Lerchinger.
