Let the outstanding natural sights in the region of the Natural Park Pohorje, to where lead numerous footpaths enchant you!

Namely, by the Lobnica stream unfolds 19 hectares of Pohorje primeval forest that is not desecrated (steep right slope above the Lobnica stream) where beech, pine and fir trees found their secret refuge as well as rare plants their secret habitats. After a short descent between the steep slopes along the Lobnica stream you will arrive at the Veliki Šumik waterfall, one of the mightiest waterfalls; and a little further on is the waterfall Mali Šumik. The path between Veliki and Mali Šumik is regarded as very difficult.

How to reach the Primeval forest and waterfalls?

  • from the direction of Maribor head along the river Drava valley to Ruše, from Ruše head towards Smolnik. Two kilometres ahead, after the turning for Gornjak, on the left side of the road is a signpost showing the way to the waterfalls or
  • from the direction of Maribor go through Hoče up to Areh, from where there leads a local path to Šumik.  

Then on the marked path from the flatland of Šumik and Pri Bajgotu, a pleasant excursion point with nice places to rest, which is located by the confluence of the streams Črnava and Majland, from which the Lobnica stream originates. To the primeval forest there is now only a thirty-minute walk!
